2 - 4 (very soft) unless combined with quartz then it has a much higher hardness rating of 7


Description:


A beautiful blue-green stone primarily formed of copper ore. In its natural state it is very soft and crumbly but when it forms in quartz it is known as "gem silica" and is used in jewelry and sculpture.


About:


Chrysocolla is found wherever copper is, and often forms with other minerals such as malachite, azurite, and cuprite, which are all copper based minerals. It is found all over the world but the most notable specimens come from Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Pennsylvania in the U.S. and in Israel, Zaire, and England.


Lore & History:


The name comes from the Greek words chrynos, meaning gold, and kolla meaning glue, due to its similarity in color to a material used in gold soldering in ancient times. It is often confused with turquoise and as such is commonly used as a turquoise "imposter".


Healing Properties:


Aids in preventing ulcers, digestive problems and arthritis. Balances hormones, alleviates fears, guilt and tension. It is often called "the women's friend" for its ability to ease period pain, pms, and other related problems, strengthening feminine qualities in both genders. The high conductivity from the copper present in the stone draws out pain, heat (fevers, inflammations, arthritis). It also aids with ailments of the heart, digestion, ulcers, and thyroid. Also used to assist in the regulation of insulin and to regenerate the pancreas.

Amplifies creativity, joy and communication. Neutralizes anger and calms frazzled nerves. Alleviates guilt, tensions, and phobias while inspiring creativity, personal power, joy, and serenity. When worn on the throat it helps one express feelings and enhances verbal and artistic creativity.
